Our journey
Since founded in 1982, DBL Logistics has grown from strength to strength each year, expanding on the quality and services offered to customers.
1982
The beginning
Bert and Linda Clarkson established South Yorkshire Distribution Services in 1982 and began delivering goods to private households in the North of England.
1998
DBL is born
Bert and Linda’s son, David, became Managing Director in 1998 and took over the running of the business, with Bert becoming Operations Director. This led to the creation of the DBL name and the business as we know it today.
2001
Joining UPN
In early 2001, we were approached with an opportunity to become a founding member of a new pallet network. United Pallet Network (UPN) opened its doors with us already firmly in place.
2013
New site opening and record breakers
Following significant investment, we opened our 33,500 sqft building in Sheffield. In the same year we broke the record for the most freight inputted into the UPN network in one evening. From our Huntsmans Depot named after Benjamin Huntsman
2014
SUFC sponsorship
DBL signed a two-year deal to become SUFC’s back-of-shirt sponsor, greatly enhancing the profile of the company. This was a great achievement for the business and a proud moment for passionate Blades fans, David and Bert.
2016
Futher Expansion
Following sustained period of growth, work began to expand our warehouse. This meant our warehouse capacity increased by a third, allowing us to meet the growing demands of our customer base and increase the size of our fleet.
2016
Sheffield Sharks
We are proud of our Sheffield roots and are keen to invest back into the city. We signed a deal to become the Sheffield Sharks’ naming right sponsor, resulting in a new logo and a close working relationship with the team.
2017
Adam Boyd joins the team
Adam Boyd joined the team in 2017 as our Operations Director. He hit the ground running, restructuring the operations, and building a team prepared for growth.
2017
Major HGV investment
The expansion of our warehouse gave us the platform to be able to invest in our fleet of vehicles. Our fleet increased from 17 to 23 vehicles following a major investment spearheaded by our then Operations Director, Adam Boyd
2018
Consecutive platinum awards
We received a record 5th consecutive award from UPN for platinum member status, becoming the only member depot out of the 90 plus businesses in the network to have retained platinum status every year since the award was introduced.
2019
Joining Pall-Ex
Joining Pall-Ex expanded our ability to meet the growing needs of our customers. After experiencing the high service levels we took the huge step of leaving UPN and fully committing to Pall-Ex. We have since picked up the New Depot of the Year Award.
2020
COVID-19
Throughout a difficult year, we dedicated a large amount of our fleet to supermarket and NHS work, keeping the wheels turning during lockdown. The Pall-Ex Group business soared with home deliveries, with our general haulage fleet growing by a further 35%.
