Sam ‘The Sensation’ going for glory in 2018
Sam ‘The Sensation’ going for glory in 2018
Friday, 3rd November 2017
We’re really looking forward to an exciting few months for our sponsored professional boxer, Sam ‘The Sensation’ O’Maison.
Sam recently announced his plans for the end of 2017 and start of 2018 – including an English title fight in January.
The Walkley super lightweight, trained by former light middleweight and British and European Champion, Ryan Rhodes, will return to action at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane later this month as part of a ‘Sheffield Steel at the Lane’ boxing event.
Sam will be looking to bounce back following defeat to Spaniard Luca Giacon over in Malaga earlier this year, which was just his second professional defeat. In his most recent appearance at Bramall Lane, Sam defeated Poland’s Lucasz Janik on points to climb to 33rd in the UK rankings for his weight category.
Sam, whom we have sponsored since 2012, said: “I’m feeling good – 2018 is looking like it’s going to be a huge year.
“The idea is that I’ll collect the English title early next year and then move straight on to the British – they’re both within reach now.
“This year has really got me ready for 2018. I’ve learned a lot and I’m getting ready for my next fight and a return to Bramall Lane now, to finish off the year. Then it’s onto 2018 and time to crack on.”
Our managing director, Dave Clarkson, said: “This is going to be an exciting few months for Sam as he looks to secure the English title early in 2018.
“It’s been a good year for Sam. Despite the defeat over in Malaga he asserted himself well and just got caught – unfortunately that’s the nature of this great sport but his performance gives us all cause for optimism that Sam can really go places next year.
“We’ve proudly supported Sam for the past five years, and now feel like he really is on the cusp of something great – let’s hope he can enjoy a winning end to 2017 and power into 2018, starting with him collecting that English title.”
