Sensational Sam to jet off to Malaga for huge title fight
Saturday, 15th July 2017
Sheffield’s Sam ‘The Sensation’ O’Maison will travel to the south of Spain next month for what will be the biggest fight of his career so far.

Sam, our professional sponsored boxer, who is also the mandatory challenger for an English title challenge later this year, will fly to Malaga to face Luca Giacon for the IBF International Super Lightweight Title on 5 August.

The Walkley light welterweight boasts a record of 14 wins and one defeat from 15 professional bouts, and he will jet off to challenge Giacon in his own back yard in just a few weeks’ time.

Sam’s trainer, Ryan Rhodes, said: “This is absolutely massive for Sam. It’s a big, big opportunity and he’s ready to take it with both hands.

“We’d been waiting for the call for a long time and it was brilliant to finally get it – and it means we’ll going over to Malaga in early August to take on Luca Giacon for the IBF International Super Lightweight Title.

“A win would propel Sam into the top 15 of the IBF category so we’re very excited. It’ll be a tough one – we’re up against a top fighter – but we’re confident. We may be going to Giacon’s back yard but we’re confident we can come home with the title.”

Our managing director, David Clarkson said: “We’re extremely excited by the position Sam’s in now. The prospect of him challenging for such a huge title is fantastic.

“We’re very happy he got that all-important call saying he would be travelling to challenge for the IBF International Super Lightweight Title and we’re confident Sam can bring it home.

“Sam could go all the way this year – after this next fight he’s mandatory for the English title, so it’s an exciting time for Sam ‘The Sensation’. We will be keeping a very close eye on his development over the next few months.”

Sam, who we’ve sponsored since 2012, said: “I’m in the best shape I’ve been in and I’ll give everything I’ve got. My confidence is sky-high.

"Without doubt, this is the biggest fight of my career so far. If I can pull it off I'm vacant to fight for a World Title, which is massive.

"These kinds of fights are what I've trained for for years - it's been constant graft and these opportunities are the reward.

"It's not every day you get this kind of chance so I'm out to grab it with both hands.

"I can switch, I can scrap, I can box, I can do it all.

“I’d like to thank everyone behind me who has got me to this point – including my trainer Ryan Rhodes and sponsors DBL Logistics. Without them I wouldn’t be standing here ready to box one of the biggest fights of my career, so I’m extremely grateful.”
